I am designing gowns with other high fashion and streetwear pieces for Fall/Winter 2018. This collection is specially marketed and made for women’s wear. Inspiration for this collection is to communicate femininity and power women have through birds of prey and songbirds that withstand the cold and harsh conditions of fall and winter. I’m making these design choices because of the symbolic impact birds have on women. The following birds inspired this collection: dove, hawk, falcon, horned owl, snowy owl, and crow. These birds are very striking with their behavior and color while being revered for their intelligence.
My direction in fashion is more towards costume and high fashion which translates in my collection. My aesthetic is for the bold and powerful while maintaining femininity. Small details in garments allow for a more interest, creating a higher selling point. My perspective is that women have often been seen as fragile and doll-like, my collection is to make women more powerful through what they wear and how they hold themselves.
I am designing for the upper-class citizen, not specifically American, who earns from $350,000 to $400,000 annually. The age of the target customer is early 20’s to early 30’s. They require nothing but the best in tastes, employment, and lifestyle. They prefer warmer climates but will wear these pieces when attending formal and fashion events in New York, Paris, and London during the fall or winter. Muses for this collection include, Gigi Hadid and Dakota Fanning who then went on to inspire my target customer Madame Diamond. Stores that appeal to her include: Versace, Prada, and Chanel.
